If feeding feels harder than anyone warned you, you are not alone

The cracked-nipple pain at 3am. The endless “is my baby getting enough?”. The pile of conflicting advice from family, the internet and the last person who weighed your baby. The quiet worry that you are somehow failing at something that is supposed to be natural.

You haven’t failed. Breastfeeding is a skill that almost everyone has to learn and many common feeding problems improve with the right, hands-on help. Getting that help early often changes everything - for you and your baby.

Message us - you don’t have to figure this out alone

Why a doctor-led lactation consultation helps

Most feeding problems are solved with good, hands-on counselling. What a doctor adds is judgement. Dr. Nonita examines you and your baby, watches a whole feed and tells you honestly when nothing more is needed. She also knows the point at which a feeding problem stops being only a feeding problem. If it is your baby, KinderCure’s pediatric team is right here in the same clinic. If it is something that belongs with another doctor, she names it clearly, so you leave knowing exactly who to see and what to ask.

Confident, comfortable latching

An unhurried look at latch and milk transfer, with hands-on coaching through the positions that build proper technique - and far less nipple pain for you.

A proper examination

In clinic she examines you and your baby - the latch, the nipple, a sore or engorged breast. Where it will help, she can weigh your baby before and after a feed to see how much milk is actually transferring, turning “is my baby getting enough?” from a fear into a number.

Safe to keep feeding

If you are on medication, or someone has told you to stop nursing in order to take it, that question deserves a doctor. Dr. Nonita reads the breastfeeding-safety evidence and tells you plainly whether you can carry on feeding. Just as often the honest answer is that nothing needs adding at all: what works is milk removal, a better latch and time.

A full pediatric clinic behind you

If a red flag - significant jaundice, dehydration or real weight faltering - needs a pediatrician, your baby’s care is referred smoothly, in one trusted place. You leave with a clear written plan plus a short WhatsApp window for quick questions between visits.

Support at every stage - the way the WHO recommends

This isn’t arbitrary. The World Health Organization recommends at least six contacts with a skilled breastfeeding counsellor across a mother’s journey - from pregnancy and the first latch through supply worries and the return to work. That is exactly what our single sessions and the Continued Care package are built around, with your weaning counselling picking up when family foods begin.

Lactation counselling - frequently asked questions

Answered by Dr. Nonita Dudeja, with pediatric oversight by Dr. Garima Mengi

Lactation counselling is professional, hands-on support for breastfeeding mothers working through nursing challenges. It helps new mothers facing latching difficulties, supply worries, painful nursing, or anyone who simply wants confident guidance to establish breastfeeding. At KinderCure it is provided by a doctor and ACLP-certified lactation professional, so a feeding concern that turns out to be medical can be assessed in the same visit.

Lactation counselling at KinderCure is led by Dr. Nonita Dudeja, a doctor and ACLP-certified lactation professional (MBBS, MD Community Medicine) - the medical training to assess and the hands-on craft to help you feed. She has the full support of KinderCure’s pediatric clinic (led by Dr. Garima Mengi) behind her whenever a baby’s feeding or growth needs a pediatric review.

A first lactation session is unhurried - there is time to watch a full feed, assess latch and milk transfer and build a written plan, without anyone watching the clock. Follow-up sessions are usually shorter, focused on reviewing progress and adjusting the plan.

Often, yes. The first job is to work out whether supply is genuinely low or whether it is the far more common perceived low supply, where the milk is there but the signals are frightening. From there the evidence is clear: supply responds to effective, frequent milk removal, so the work goes into latch, positioning, how often your baby feeds and how well the breast is drained. Dr. Nonita watches a whole feed, examines your breasts and nipples and can weigh your baby before and after a feed to see what is really transferring, which replaces guesswork with a number. Outcomes vary from mother to mother and nobody can promise you a supply, so the aim is to get the most out of what is possible for you, honestly and without guilt. If supply does not respond the way we would expect, she will tell you clearly that it is time to take it to your own doctor.

Most breastfeeding help is hands-on coaching: latch, positioning, milk removal and a plan you can actually follow at 3am. That is the bulk of the work and it is what most mothers need. Seeing a doctor changes what happens at the edges. Dr. Nonita can examine your breasts and nipples, watch a full feed and weigh your baby before and after it to see how much milk is transferring. She can tell you whether a medicine you are already taking is safe to continue while you nurse. Most of all, she knows when a feeding problem is no longer only a feeding problem. If your baby needs a pediatrician, KinderCure’s pediatric team is in the same clinic. If something belongs with another doctor, she will say so plainly rather than leave you guessing.

A blocked duct, engorgement and mastitis are breast problems, so they sit squarely inside lactation care. Dr. Nonita examines the breast and works on getting milk moving properly again, which is the part that actually resolves most of them. She is careful not to reach for antibiotics that are not needed. If the breast is not settling, or if there are signs of an abscess, that needs attention beyond lactation care and she will refer you promptly rather than wait and see.

Lactation counselling is by appointment and most first sessions can be arranged within the same week. For an exact slot, send us a WhatsApp message - we reply during clinic hours.
